Lighting needs
Something that we can easily assume is that the needs of the guest change shape depending on the season and at time of day. We may not sit for as long at lunchtime and the need for light looks different compared to evening time. In the evening when it may be dark outside, we may want more dimmed lighting but we also want to see well, we probably sit longer than at lunchtime. Then the colour rendering may need to be increased so that both guest and serving staff get a better contrast. Only by increasing the colour rendering by 10-15 units (from Ra80 to Ra90) can we reduce the amount of light 30% and still see just as well. This is important and affects us more the older we get.
Light dimmer
What happens when the light source is dimmed? Actually, nothing happens except reduced amount of light and reduced energy consumption. This applies if we use a control protocol and it is actually more important than we think. If a standard wall dimmer is used and we dim the light, this will flicker at 100Hz, just beyond what we can see but the brain can still detect it. If we use DALI, Casambi or some other control protocol instead, the flicker will not be present. With a modern control protocol, we dim the light source with a frequency far beyond what affects us.
Colour rendering
Yes, it is not only the guest who needs a high colour rendering but also the chefs, waiters and other staff. Everything gets nicer with high colour rendering and why should you choose something other than the best here? The chef, the cold sideboard, etc. need to see that the food looks perfect before leaving the kitchen and waiters, the serving staff as well but above all the customer must see to enjoy the food, every nuance of his experience should be maximized, right!
Light control
It is important to work with a scenario management that is intuitive and improves the experience for the guest. By letting a professional enter the control scenario, it can easily become intuitive based on season, time of day, etc. and that the values are conveyed in the light to the guest. Our units are perfectly controlled and controlled based on the professional needs of these environments.
In short, you can say that everything in the restaurant environment should have the best possible colour rendering and it should work perfectly with the light control protocol, everything else is just an unnecessary loss. We do not dwell on which control protocol you choose, but by choosing a protocol you will get a perfect light for all customers and all occasions.
